بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْخَيْلِ وَالْمُسَابَقَةِ بَيْنَهَا ، وَالنَّفَقَةِ فِي الْغَزْوِChapter on What is Reported Regarding Horses, Racing, and Spending in Battle
Hadith 1004
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُئِيَ وَهُوَ يَمْسَحُ وَجْهَ فَرَسِهِ بِرِدَائِهِ فَسُئِلَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي عُوتِبْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي الْخَيْلِ "
It is narrated from Yahya bin Saeed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was seen by the people cleaning his horse’s mouth with a cloth. The people asked the reason for this, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Last night I was reproached for not taking care of the horse.”
