بَابُ وُقُوْتِ الصَّلَاةِChapter on the times of prayer
Hadith 1
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيى اللَّيْثِيّ ، عَنْ مَالِك بْن أَنَس ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، أَخَّرَ الصَّلَاةَ يَوْمًا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ ، أَخَّرَ الصَّلَاةَ يَوْمًا وَهُوَ بِالْكُوفَةِ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا يَا مُغِيرَةُ؟ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ " جِبْرِيلَ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: بِهَذَا أُمِرْتُ " . فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ: اعْلَمْ مَا تُحَدِّثُ بِهِ يَا عُرْوَةُ ، أَوَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ هُوَ الَّذِي أَقَامَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقْتَ الصَّلَاةِ؟ قَالَ عُرْوَةُ: كَذَلِكَ كَانَ بَشِيرُ بْنُ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ . ¤ قَالَ قَالَ عُرْوَةُ : وَلَقَدْ حَدَّثَتْنِي عَائِشَةُ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ فِي حُجْرَتِهَا ، قَبْلَ أَنْ تَظْهَرَ "
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Muslim bin Shihab Zuhri that once, when Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the Caliph of the time, delayed the Asr prayer, Urwah bin Zubair went to him and informed him that Mughira bin Shu’bah had once delayed the Asr prayer when he was the governor of Kufa. Then Abu Mas’ud Uqbah bin Amr Ansari went to him and said, “O Mughira! What is this delay in prayer? Do you not know that Jibreel (peace be upon him) descended from the sky and led the prayer (of Zuhr), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) led the prayer (of Asr), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) led the prayer (of Maghrib), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) led the prayer (of Isha), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) led the prayer (of Fajr), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed with him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): ‘This is how you have been commanded.’” Then Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said to Urwah, “Do you understand what you narrate? Did Jibreel (peace be upon him) establish the times of prayer for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?” Urwah said that Bashir, the son of Abu Mas’ud bin Uqbah bin Amr Ansari, used to narrate the same from his father.
And Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray Asr while the sunlight was still inside the room, before it climbed up the walls.
