Muwatta Imam Malik (Riwayat Ibn al-Qasim)

It is narrated from Salim bin Abdullah (bin Umar, may Allah have mercy on him) that Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr as-Siddiq, may Allah have mercy on him, informed Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the wife of the Prophet, Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, stated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Have you not seen, do you not know that when your people, the Quraysh of Mecca, rebuilt the Ka'bah, they made it smaller than the foundations of Ibrahim, peace be upon him?" Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Why do you not return it to the foundations of Ibrahim, peace be upon him?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "If your people had not only recently left disbelief and become Muslim, I would have done so." Upon hearing this, Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: If Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then I think that the reason the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not touch the two corners (walls) of the Hijr (Hatim) during tawaf was only because the House of Allah was not built upon the foundations of Ibrahim, peace be upon him.
