Hadith 649
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from among the people of Najd came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his hair was disheveled, and his voice was humming but his words were not understood, until he came close to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was seen that he was asking about Islam, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are five prayers (obligatory) in the day and night." He said: Is there any prayer obligatory upon me besides these (five)? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, except that you offer voluntary prayers of your own accord." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "And the fasts of Ramadan (are obligatory)." He said: Are there any other fasts obligatory upon me besides these? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, except that you keep voluntary fasts of your own accord." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned Zakat, he asked: Is there anything else obligatory upon me besides this (Zakat)? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, except that you give voluntary charity of your own accord." Then that man turned away saying: By Allah! I will neither add to these nor decrease from them. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If he has spoken the truth, he has succeeded."
