Muwatta Imam Malik (Riwayat Ibn al-Qasim)

And with the same chain of narration (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever frees his share in a (jointly owned) slave, then if he has wealth equal to the value of the slave, the value of the slave will be calculated and his partners will be given their shares from his wealth, and the slave will be freed on his behalf. Otherwise, only that portion will be freed which has been freed."
