Muwatta Imam Malik (Riwayat Ibn al-Qasim)

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Haneen (Tabi'i) that at the place of Abwa, there was a disagreement between Abdullah bin Abbas and Miswar bin Makhrama (may Allah be pleased with them). Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: A person in the state of Ihram will wash his head, and Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A person in the state of Ihram will not wash his head. Then Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) sent me to Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). I saw that he was bathing, screened by a cloth between two wooden poles of a well. I greeted him with salam, and he asked: Who is this? I said: I am Abdullah bin Haneen. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) has sent me to you to ask how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wash his head while in the state of Ihram. So Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) placed his hand on the cloth and lowered it, so I began to see his head. Then he said to the person pouring water: Pour water. So he poured water on his head. Then he moved his hands and brought them forward and backward, then said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) doing it in this manner.
