Muwatta Imam Malik (Riwayat Ibn al-Qasim)

The wife of the Prophet, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: There are three Sunnahs regarding Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her). One of these Sunnahs is that when she was freed, she was given the choice regarding her husband (who was a slave). And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The right of wala’ (allegiance) belongs to the one who sets free. And (one day) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered (the house) and a pot was boiling with meat. When bread and some household curry was presented to him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Did I not see a pot in which there was meat?” (The household) said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! But that meat was given to Barirah as charity, and you do not eat charity. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is charity for her, and for us it is a gift.”
