Issues of Fasting
Continuous fasting (wisal) is prohibited
Hadith 259
209- وبه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن الوصال، فقالوا: يا رسول الله فإنك تواصل، فقال: ”إني لست كهيئتكم، إني أطعم وأسقي.“
And with the same chain of narration (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade fasting continuously without breaking the fast. So the people asked: O Messenger of Allah! You yourself fast continuously? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "I am not like you; during continuous fasting, I am given food and drink."
Hadith 260
344- وبه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ”إياكم والوصال“، قالوا: فإنك تواصل يا رسول الله، قال: ”إني لست كهيئتكم، إني أبيت يطعمني ربي ويسقيني.“
And with this same chain (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not observe continuous fasting (wisal)." The people said: O Messenger of Allah! You yourself observe continuous fasting? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I am not like you; my Lord feeds me and gives me drink at night."
