Punishment of the grave is true
Hadith 225
207- وبه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ”إن أحدكم إذا مات عرض عليه مقعده بالغداة والعشي، إن كان من أهل الجنة فمن أهل الجنة، وإن كان من أهل النار فمن أهل النار، يقال له: هذا مقعدك حتى يبعثك الله إليه يوم القيامة.“
And with this same chain (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When one of you dies, his place is shown to him morning and evening; if he is among the people of Paradise, then his place in Paradise is shown to him, and if he is among the people of Hell, then his place in Hell is shown to him, and it is said to him: When Allah raises you again on the Day of Resurrection, this will be your abode."
Hadith 226
337- وبه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ”قال رجل لم يعمل حسنة قط لأهله: إذا هو مات فأحرقوه، ثم اذروا نصفه فى البر ونصفه فى البحر؛ فوالله، لئن قدر الله عليه ليعذبنه عذابا لا يعذبه أحدا من العالمين. فلما مات الرجل فعلوا ما أمرهم فأمر الله البر فجمع ما فيه، وأمر البحر فجمع ما فيه، ثم قال: لم فعلت هذا؟ فقال: من خشيتك يا رب، وأنت أعلم، قال: فغفر الله له.“
And with this same chain (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A man who had never done any good deed said to his family: If he dies, burn him, then scatter half of his ashes on land and half in the sea, because if Allah were to be strict (in questioning) with him, He would punish him with a torment that He has not inflicted on any of His creation. Then when that man died, they did as he had commanded them. Then Allah commanded the land, so it gathered together the particles of that man, and He commanded the sea, so it (also) gathered together the particles of that man. Then Allah said: Why did you do this? He said: O Lord! You know that I did this out of fear of You. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: So Allah forgave him."
Hadith 227
471- وبه: أن رجلا قال للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: إن أمي افتلتت نفسها وأراها لو تكلمت تصدقت، أفأتصدق عنها؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ”نعم، فتصدق عنها.“
And with the same chain of narration (it is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) that a man said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: My mother has passed away suddenly, and I think that if she had the opportunity to speak, she would have given charity. Can I give charity on her behalf? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes!" So he gave charity on behalf of his mother.
Hadith 228
495- وبه: أن يهودية جاءت تسألها، فقالت لها: أعاذك الله من عذاب القبر. فسألت عائشة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أيعذب الناس فى قبورهم؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عائذا بالله من ذلك، ثم ركب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات غداة مركبا، فخسف بالشمس فرجع ضحى، فمر بين ظهراني الحجر، ثم قام يصلي وقام الناس وراءه فقام قياما طويلا، ثم ركع ركوعا طويلا، ثم رفع فقام قياما طويلا وهو دون القيام الأول، ثم ركع ركوعا طويلا وهو دون الركوع الأول، ثم رفع فسجد، ثم قام قياما طويلا وهو دون القيام الأول، ثم ركع ركوعا طويلا وهو دون الركوع الأول، ثم رفع فقام قياما طويلا وهو دون القيام الأول ثم ركع ركوعا طويلا وهو دون الركوع الأول، ثم رفع فسجد، ثم انصرف فقال ما شاء الله أن يقول، ثم أمرهم أن يتعوذوا من عذاب القبر.
And with the same chain of narration, it is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a Jewish woman came to her asking for something and said: "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." So Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Are people punished in their graves?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "I seek refuge with Allah from that." Then one morning, he mounted his riding animal, the sun was eclipsed, so he returned before noon and passed by the chambers, then stood up to pray and the people began to pray behind him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a very long time, then bowed for a very long time, then stood up again for a long time, though less than the first standing, then bowed for a long time, though less than the first bowing, then when he raised his head (from bowing), he prostrated. Then (in the second unit) he stood for a long time, though less than the previous standing, then bowed for a long time, though less than the previous bowing, then stood up for a long time, though less than the previous standing, then bowed for a long time, though less than the previous bowing, then when he raised his head (from bowing), he prostrated. Then when he finished the prayer, he mentioned what Allah willed, then instructed the people to seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.
