Passing in Front of a Praying Person Is a Grave Sin
Hadith 130
422- وعن أبى النضر عن بسر بن سعيد أن زيد بن خالد الجهني أرسله إلى أبى جهيم يسأله ماذا سمع من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فى المار بين يدي المصلي؟ فقال أبو جهيم: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ”لو يعلم المار بين يدي المصلي ماذا عليه، لكان أن يقف أربعين خيرا له من أن يمر بين يديه“ قال أبو النضر: لا أدري قال: أربعين يوما أم شهرا أم سنة.
It is narrated from Basar bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) sent him to Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said about one who passes in front of a person praying. So Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If the one who passes in front of a person praying knew what (sin) is upon him, it would be better for him to stand for forty (?) than to pass in front of the one praying." Abu al-Nadr (may Allah have mercy on him, the narrator) said: I do not know whether he said forty days, or forty months, or forty years.
