Description of sending blessings (salat) on the Prophet
Hadith 126
268- مالك عن نعيم بن عبد الله المجمر أن محمد بن عبد الله بن زيد الأنصاري، وعبد الله بن زيد هو الذى كان رأى النداء بالصلاة، أخبره عن أبى مسعود الأنصاري أنه قال: أتاني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فى مجلس سعد بن عبادة، فقال له بشير بن سعد: أمرنا الله أن نصلي عليك يا رسول الله، فكيف نصلي عليك؟ قال: فسكت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم حتى تمنينا أنه لم يسأله، ثم قال: ”قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد، كما صليت على آل إبراهيم، وبارك على محمد، وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على آل إبراهيم، فى العالمين إنك حميد مجيد، والسلام كما قد علمتم.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were in the gathering of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then Bashir bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! Allah has commanded us to send blessings upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you?” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent until we wished that he had not asked him (this) question. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Say «اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ» O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and the greeting (al-tahiyyat) is as you have learned.”
Hadith 127
313- وبه: عن أبيه عن عمرو بن سليم الزرقي أنه قال: أخبرني أبو حميد الساعدي أنهم قالوا: يا رسول الله، كيف نصلي عليك؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ”قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد وعلى أزواجه وذريته كما صليت على آل إبراهيم، وبارك على محمد وأزواجه وذريته كما باركت على آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd As-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: O Messenger of Allah! How should we send blessings upon you? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say «اللهم صل على محمد وعلى أزواجه وذريته كماصليت على آل إبراهيم ، وبارك على محمد وأزواجه وذريته كماباركت على آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد» O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him), his wives, and his offspring as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. And send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him), his wives, and his offspring as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."
