It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went towards (the battle of) Khandaq, and he saw a young Ansari man who had recently gotten married. He said, "O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to go home once more." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission. When the young man reached near his house, he saw that his wife was standing between the two doors. He took a spear and advanced to strike his wife, but she said, "Do not be hasty, go inside and see what is there." Then he entered the house and saw that a snake, coiled up, was present on his bed. When he saw the snake, he pierced it with the spear and lifted it up. Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The snake writhed and died on the spear, and the young man also fell down (and passed away). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said: "There are such jinn in Madinah who have become Muslims. If you see any of them, warn them for three days (to leave our house), then if they appear after that, kill them, for it is a devil (a disbelieving jinn)." Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He should come before it and say three times: I adjure you by Allah and by the Day of Judgment: leave, do not appear before us, and do not come here again.
