It is narrated from the wife of the Prophet, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that we set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey until we reached the place of Baida or Dhat al-Jaish, when my necklace broke and fell. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions stopped to look for it, and there was no water there, nor did the people have any water. The people went to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Do you not see what Aisha has done? She has held up the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people, and there is no water here, nor do the people have any water. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was resting his head on my thigh and sleeping. He said: You have held up the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the people, and there is no water here, nor do the people have any water. Then (my father) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) reproached me and said what Allah willed, and he was poking his hand into my side, and I could not move because of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as he was resting his head on my thigh and sleeping. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept until morning, and no water was found until morning. Then Allah revealed the verse of tayammum: «فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا» "So perform tayammum with clean earth." [النساء : 43 ، المائده : 6] Then Sayyiduna Usayd ibn Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said (happily): O family of Abu Bakr! This is not your first blessing. Then we raised the camel on which I was riding, and my necklace was found underneath it.
