It is narrated from Imran al-Ansari that I was under a tree on the way to Mecca when Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) turned towards me and asked: Who made you stop under this tall tree? I said: I stopped here for its shade. He asked: Is there any other reason besides this? I said: No, nothing else made me stop here. Then Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you reach between the two mountains of Mina—he (peace be upon him) pointed towards the east—there is a valley there which is called Surr, in it there is a tree under which seventy prophets were born (or received prophethood). Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: By Surr it is meant that at the time of their birth, their umbilical cords were cut.
