447- وبه: قال كان الناس إذا رأوا أول الثمر جاؤوا به إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فإذا أخذه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ”اللهم بارك لنا فى ثمرنا، وبارك لنا فى مدينتنا، وبارك لنا فى صاعنا، وبارك لنا فى مدنا، اللهم إن إبراهيم عبدك وخليلك ونبيك، وإني عبدك ونبيك، وإنه دعاك لمكة وإني أدعوك للمدينة بمثل ما دعاك به لمكة ومثله معه“ قال: ثم يدعو أصغر وليد يراه فيعطيه ذلك الثمر. كمل حديث سهيل وهو تسعة أحاديث.
And with this same chain (it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him) that when people would see the first fruit, they would bring it to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Then when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would take it, he would say: «اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي ثَمَرِنَا ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مُدِّنَا ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَبْدُكَ وَخَلِيلُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ ، وَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ ، وَإِنَّهُ دَعَاكَ لِمَكَّةَ ، وَإِنِّي أَدْعُوكَ لِلْمَدِينَةِ بِمِثْلِ مَا دَعَاكَ بِهِ لِمَكَّةَ ، وَمِثْلَهُ مَعَهُ» "O Allah! Put blessings in our fruits, and put blessings for us in our Madinah, and put blessings for us in our sa‘ (measure) and put blessings for us in our mudd (measure). O Allah! Your servant, Your friend, and Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, prayed for Makkah, and I am Your servant and Prophet, and I pray for Madinah just as he prayed for Makkah and with a similar prayer." Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would call the youngest child and give him this fruit. The ahadith narrated by Suhail (bin Abi Salih) are completed, and they are nine (9) ahadith.

Jurisprudential Points:
➊ Just as Makkah Mukarramah is a sanctuary (haram), so too is Madinah Tayyibah.
➋ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplicated for Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Tayyibah, but did not supplicate for Iraq, because from there the horn of Satan will emerge. See: [الموطأ:120 وصحيح البخاري 2130، ومسلم 1368]
➌ Compared to the rest of the world, residing in Makkah and Madinah is superior.
➍ When a crop ripens, it is recommended to send or give the first fruit as a gift to the caliph, a righteous person, and children, so that they may supplicate (make du'a).
➎ When receiving a gift, it is legislated and Sunnah to supplicate for the one who presented the gift.

➐ Making supplications for peace and security for the Muslims is among the best of deeds.
➑ In light of the Shari'ah, one should treat small children with love, affection, and compassion.
