It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Zuhair (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Yemen will be conquered, then a people will come (and leave Madinah), they will take their families and dependents with them, even though Madinah would be better for them if they knew. Iraq will be conquered, then a people will come who will travel taking their families and dependents with them, even though Madinah would be better for them if they knew. And Shaam will be conquered, then a people will come who will travel taking their families and dependents with them, and Madinah would be better for them if they knew. And Shaam will be conquered, then a people will come who will travel taking their families and dependents with them, and Madinah would be better for them if they knew.

Jurisprudential Points: ➊ The virtue and importance of Madinah Tayyibah are evident. ➋ Residence in Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Tayyibah is superior to residence in all other places, and there is consensus on this. [التمهيد 22 / 224] ➌ The messengership and prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are absolutely true and real. ➍ Hafiz Ibn Abd al-Barr (rahimahullah) said that this hadith is among the signs of prophethood, because it contains information about the unseen, and the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not know the unseen except for what Allah informed him of through revelation.
