Hadith 572

It is narrated from Aslam (Tabi'i) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was traveling on one of his journeys, and Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was also traveling with him at night. Then Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, asked you about something, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not answer. Then (he asked again), but you, peace and blessings be upon him, did not answer. Then (he asked a third time), but you, peace and blessings be upon him, did not answer. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said (to himself): O Umar! May your mother lose you! You insisted and asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, three times, and each time he did not answer you. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I moved my camel until I reached in front of the people, and I was afraid that Qur'an would be revealed about me. After a short while, I heard a loud voice of a caller, so I said: I fear that Qur'an has been revealed about me. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and greeted him with salam. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Tonight a surah has been revealed to me which is more beloved to me than anything upon which the sun shines." Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, recited, «إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُّبِينًا» "Indeed, We have given you a clear victory" (Surah al-Fath). Abu al-Hasan (al-Qabisi) said: The statement of the narrator that Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Then I moved the camel... etc., clarifies that this narration was reported by Aslam from Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.
