It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about a lost item (luqatah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recognize well its pouch and its tied string, then announce it for a year. If its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, use it yourself." He asked: "If a lost goat is found?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, for your brother, or the wolf will eat it." He asked: "If a lost camel is found?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What concern do you have with it? Its water and its walking shoes are with it; it will drink water and eat from the trees until its owner finds it."
