It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, if menstrual blood gets on any of our clothes, what should she do? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If menstrual blood gets on any of your clothes, she should scrape it off, then pour water over it so that she can pray in it."

Jurisprudential Points (Tafaqquh): ➊ Menstrual blood is impure (najis); therefore, it is necessary to scrape it off or wash it. ➋ Imam Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri rahimahullah was asked: If a pregnant woman sees blood, what should she do? He replied: She should refrain from performing prayer. [الموطأ 60/1 ح 129، وسنده صحيح، رواه مالك عنه] ➌ One should perform prayer only after removing impurity (najasah) from the body and clothes. ➍ It is necessary for the body and clothes to be pure (tahir) for prayer. ➎ In one hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was praying in shoes that had impurity (najasah) on them, so he removed those shoes during the prayer itself. al-kh [سنن ابي داود : 650 و سند صحيح] ◄ From this hadith, it is understood that if someone unknowingly has impurity on them, then upon coming to know of it, it is not necessary to repeat the prayer. See: [التمهيد 242/22] ➏ If an impure thing is washed with water, it becomes pure.
