442- وبه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ”إذا سمعت الرجل يقول: هلك الناس، فهو أهلكهم.“
And with the same chain of narration, it is narrated from (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If you hear a man saying that the people are ruined, then he is the most ruined among them."

Jurisprudential Points: ➊ Some people habitually and contemptuously speak ill of others without any justification, while failing to examine themselves; this is an extremely reprehensible act. ➋ One should not criticize anyone without a Shari‘ah-based proof; however, it should be remembered that the narration of an unknown (majhool) narrator is rejected. ➌ People should not be made to despair of Allah’s mercy. There is a difference between warning of Allah’s punishment and causing despair of His mercy. ➍ This hadith also refutes the prevalent custom of “April Fool” among the disbelievers, which is now rapidly spreading among ignorant Muslims.
