It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the wife of Sayyiduna Abu Talhah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, Allah is not shy of (telling) the truth. If a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes, if she sees water."

Jurisprudential Points: ➊ Women also experience nocturnal emission (ihtilam), although it occurs less frequently than in men. ➋ If a woman experiences nocturnal emission (ihtilam) during sleep, then taking a ritual bath (ghusl) becomes obligatory upon her. ➌ Outward modesty should not be an obstacle in the pursuit of knowledge. ➍ Sayyidah Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha was always engaged in acting upon the Book and the Sunnah and in seeking knowledge. ➎ One should either go personally to ask about an issue or ascertain it through reliable sources. ➏ Allah, the Exalted, has explained the entire religion through His Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. ➐ If any issue arises, one should not feel shy to ask about it.
