It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) that in the year of the conquest (of Makkah), I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw that he was performing ghusl (ritual bath), and the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), was screening him with a cloth. So I greeted (with salam). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is this?" I said: I am Umm Hani, the daughter of Abu Talib. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome, Umm Hani." Then, when he finished his ghusl, he stood up wrapped in a single garment and prayed eight rak‘ahs. When he finished, I said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother's son (Sayyidina Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) claims that he will kill so-and-so, the son of Hubayrah, whom I have granted protection. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Hani! We grant protection to whomever you have granted protection." Umm Hani said: And it was the time of Duha (forenoon).

Jurisprudential Points: ➊ The forenoon (Duha) prayer is Sunnah (recommended). ➋ It is permissible to speak about necessary matters while bathing. It is also permissible to speak about necessary matters while performing ablution (wudu), as is established from the hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah radi Allahu anhu. See [صحيح بخاري ح206] ➌ If a Muslim woman grants protection (aman) to a disbeliever during a state of war, it will be accepted and that disbeliever will be protected, provided that the Muslim leader affirms and confirms this protection. According to the majority of scholars, a woman's granting of protection is valid and it is not conditional upon the affirmation and confirmation of the Muslim leader; rather, it is valid even without it. And Allah knows best. ➍ One should bathe (ghusl) in privacy from people. ➎ It is Sunnah to welcome someone who arrives. ➏ Who was Ibn Hasbira? There is a difference of opinion regarding this. Some say he was Ja'dah bin Hasbira. And Allah knows best.
