And with the same chain of narration, it is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) that when a woman suffering from fever was brought to her, she would supplicate for her, call for water, then pour it down the middle of her collar, and say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to cool it (the fever) with water.

Jurisprudential Points (Tafaqquh): ➊ If a fever is cooled down by water, then it is permissible to cool the patient with water, ice, etc., so that the fever subsides. Modern science has also established that if a patient has a fever, cold compresses should be applied. ➋ It is Sunnah to supplicate (make du'a) for the sick person. ➌ It is permissible to ask a pious person to supplicate and to seek blessing (tabarruk) from him. ➍ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was sent as a mercy to the worlds, and it should be remembered that this is his exclusive attribute in which no one else shares with him. ➎ Through supplication (du'a), Allah Most High averts calamities.
