Hadith 440

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! The livestock have perished and the roads are blocked, so please pray. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed. Then from that Friday until the next Friday, it rained continuously. Then that man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! The houses have collapsed, the roads are blocked, and the livestock have perished. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said: "O Allah! Let it rain on the tops of the mountains, on the hills, between the valleys, and on the places where trees grow." Then the clouds cleared from Madinah in such a way as a cloth is torn apart.

Jurisprudential Points:
➊ It is permissible to specifically supplicate for rain during the Friday sermon.
➋ During the sermon, it is permissible for the preacher to speak to the people and for a questioner to speak to the preacher when there is a need.
➌ Delivering the sermon in a non-Arabic language is permissible; otherwise, how would a non-Arabic-speaking questioner request supplication from the preacher if the sermon is being delivered in Arabic and the questioner does not know Arabic?
➍ The miracle of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam): rain began with his supplication and ceased with his supplication.
➎ The absence of rain is among the types of punishment or trial.
➏ Supplication can be made upon request.
➐ The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was extremely compassionate towards his ummah; whenever any Muslim requested a permissible supplication, he would supplicate for him.
➑ Only Allah is the remover of difficulties.
➒ Causing rain to fall is solely Allah’s work, and not a single drop falls without His will.
