It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid bin Mughirah al-Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he entered the house of his maternal aunt Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). A roasted lizard (sammasar, dhab) was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for eating, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stretched out his hand towards it to eat. One of the women in the house of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), let me tell you about what you intend to eat." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is sammasar (dhab)." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) withdrew his hand. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is it forbidden?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so my nature finds it distasteful." Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I pulled it towards myself and ate it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was looking at me."
