Hadith 342

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he slaughtered his sacrifice on the day of Eid al-Adha before the sacrifice (i.e., Eid prayer) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to offer another sacrifice. Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have only a Jadh‘ (a one-year-old goat). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "If you have nothing except a Jadh‘, then slaughter that only."

➎ Imam Malik rahimahullah said: Sacrifice is a Sunnah, not obligatory, and I do not like that a person with wealth and means should abandon it.
