491- وعن محمد بن إبراهيم بن الحارث التيمي عن أبى سلمة بن عبد الرحمن عن أبى سعيد الخدري أنه قال: ”سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: يخرج فيكم قوم تحقرون صلاتكم مع صلاتهم، وصيامكم مع صيامهم، وعملكم مع عملهم، يقرؤون القرآن لا يجاوز حناجرهم، يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق السهم من الرمية، تنظر فى النصل فلا ترى شيئا، ثم تنظر فى القدح فلا ترى شيئا ثم تنظر فى الريش فلا ترى شيئا، وتتمارى فى الفوق“ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A people will emerge among you such that you will consider your prayers insignificant compared to their prayers, your fasts compared to their fasts, and your deeds compared to their deeds. They will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats. They will go out of the religion just as an arrow passes through its prey. If you look at the arrowhead, you will find nothing (of blood, etc.) on it; if you look at the shaft, you will find nothing on it; if you look at its feathers, you will find no trace on them; and you will doubt about the arrow's nock (the place where the bowstring rests) whether there is any effect on it or not."

Takhrij al-Hadith:

Jurisprudential Points:
➊ In this hadith, the characteristics of the Khawarij and Takfiris are mentioned.
➋ The messengership and prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are true and real.
➌ The Book and the Sunnah should only be understood in the light of the understanding of the Salaf Salihin (pious predecessors); those who hold the view of understanding the Book and Sunnah according to their own understanding in opposition to the Salaf Salihin are Khawarij and people of innovation (Ahl al-Bid‘ah).
➍ Among those on the face of the earth who claim Islam, the most evil people are the Khawarij and Takfiris, who declare rightly guided Muslims to be disbelievers.
➎ Just as the Qur’an is a proof, so too is the hadith a proof.
➏ It is not permissible to rebel against an Islamic government (which has implemented the Book and Sunnah), even if the caliph is a transgressor (fasiq).
➐ A Muslim should always fear Allah, lest he go astray and become deserving of Allah’s wrath.
➑ One should always maintain contact with the scholars of truth.
➒ It is extremely important to avoid innovations (bid‘at), otherwise one’s deeds are ruined.
➓ If beliefs and doctrines are not in accordance with the Book and Sunnah, then even a mountain of deeds holds no value whatsoever.
