It is narrated from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, he said: Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah Munawwarah, and at that time Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) was the governor of Madinah. So Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent me to him so that I could ask him about the hadith which Hajjaj bin Yusuf narrated regarding those people who left Madinah Munawwarah and attacked the pasture of Madinah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army in pursuit of them, and they captured six of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) crucified two of them, cut off the limbs of two, and branded the eyes of two with heated rods. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: These people had accepted Islam, migrated, resided in Madinah, then became averse to Islam and apostatized, and joined the enemies, so it was permissible to treat them in this way.
Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil says: Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent me to him again and said: I wish you had not narrated this hadith to Hajjaj, because this action was done by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to those who apostatized and joined the polytheists, whereas Hajjaj did this to those who neither apostatized nor joined the polytheists.
Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil says: Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) told me to ask him whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to apply henna. So Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade dyeing the hair black. If you were to count the white hairs on the head and beard of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they would not exceed twenty. Or he said: You would not find even ten white hairs in the hair of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And these words were narrated by Abu Yusuf Saydalani.
