Abbas bin Salim narrated: Umar bin Abdul Aziz sent a message to Abu Salam Habashi (may Allah have mercy on him) and called him, so he (in order to arrive quickly) rode on a postal horse. When Umar bin Abdul Aziz came to him, he said: O Commander of the Faithful! I had to endure the hardship of riding a postal horse. Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: O Abu Salam, we did not wish to put you in hardship, but we have learned that you narrate a hadith about the Pond from the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and I wished to hear that hadith directly from you. Abu Salam said: I heard from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "My Pond is as long as the distance from Aden to Amman Balqa. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Its cups are as numerous as the stars in the sky. Whoever drinks from it once will never feel thirst again. The first to arrive at the Pond will be the poor emigrants." Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Who are they? He (peace be upon him) said: "Those whose hair is disheveled and clothes are dirty. They do not marry women brought up in luxury and comfort. Closed doors are not opened for them." Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: By Allah! Doors have been opened for me, and I have married Fatimah bint Abdul Malik, who was brought up in luxury and comfort. May Allah have mercy on me, now I will certainly not apply oil to my head until my hair becomes disheveled, and I will not wash the clothes on my body until they become dirty.
