Four types of people will be retested on the Day of Resurrection
Hadith 941
أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، صَاحِبُ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْأحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: أَرْبَعَةٌ يَحْتَجُّونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، رَجُلٌ أَصَمُّ، وَرَجُلٌ أَحْمَقُ، وَرَجُلٌ هَرِمٌ، وَرَجُلٌ مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ، فَأَمَّا الْأَصَمُّ فَيَقُولُ: رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ شَيْئًا، وَأَمَّا الْأَحْمَقُ فَيَقُولُ: رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ يَحْذِفُونِي بِالْبَعْرِ، وَأَمَّا الْهَرِمُ فَيَقُولُ: رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَمَا أَعْقِلُ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ فَيَقُولُ: رَبِّ مَا أَتَانِي لَكَ رَسُولٌ، فَيَأْخُذُ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ لَيُطِيعَنَّهُ، فَيُرْسِلُ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولًا أَنِ ادْخُلُوا النَّارَ قَالَ: فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ دَخَلُوهَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا.
Sayyiduna Aswad bin Sari’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: “Four persons will present their arguments on the Day of Resurrection: the deaf, the foolish, the very old, and the one who died during the period «فترة» (the interval between two prophets). As for the deaf person, he will say: ‘O Lord! Islam came but I could not hear anything.’ As for the foolish, he will say: ‘O Lord! Islam came while children were throwing dung at me.’ As for the very old, he will say: ‘O Lord! Islam came but I had no understanding (and my memory was gone).’ As for the one who died during the period «فترة», he will say: ‘O Lord! No messenger of Yours came to me.’ Then He will take a firm covenant from them that they will obey Him, then He will send a messenger to them who will say: ‘Enter the Hellfire.’” He (the Prophet) said: “By Him in Whose hand is my soul! If they enter it, it will become cool and safe for them.”
Hadith 942
أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، بِمِثْلِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: فَمَنْ دَخَلَهَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَدْخُلْهَا يُسْحَبُ إِلَيْهَا.
Abu Rafi’ narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) a narration similar to the previous hadith, except that he mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So whoever enters it, there will be peace and coolness upon him, and whoever does not enter it will be pushed towards it."
Hadith 943
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، نا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " أَرْبَعٌ كُلُّهُمْ يُدْلِي عَلَى اللَّهِ بِحُجَّةٍ وَعُذْرٍ: رَجُلٌ مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ، وَرَجُلٌ مَاتَ هَرِمًا، وَرَجُلٌ مَعْتُوهٌ، وَرَجُلٌ أَصَمُّ أَبْكَمُ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ: إِنِّي أُرْسِلُ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا فَأَطِيعُوهُ، فَيَأْتِيهِمْ فَيَتَأَجَّجُ لَهُمْ نَارًا فَيَقُولُ: اقْتَحِمُوهَا مَنْ دَخَلَهَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَقْتَحِمْهَا حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ كَلِمَةُ الْعَذَابِ ".
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "There are four types of people who all argue and plead with Allah with an excuse: a man who died during the interval between two prophets (peace be upon them), a man who died in old age, a mad person, and a deaf and mute person. So Allah will say to them: I am going to send a messenger to you, obey him. Then he will come to them and kindle a fire for them, then he will say: Enter into it. Whoever enters into it, it will become coolness and safety for him, and whoever does not enter into it, the decree of punishment will be established upon him."
