Statement about greed for wealth
Hadith 939
اَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوْسٰی، نَا طَلْحَةُ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: کَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَثِیْرًا مَا یَقُوْلُ، فَـلَا اَدْرِیْ اَهُوْ شَیْئٌ یَسْتَحِبُّهٗ، اَوْ هُوَ مِنْ کِتَابِ اللّٰهِ لَوْ کَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِیَانِ مِنْ مَّالٍ لَتَمَنَّی عَلَی اللّٰهِ مِثْلَهٗ، وَلَا یَمْلَأُ نَفْسَهٗ اِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَیَتُوْبُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰی مَنْ تَابَ.
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say this often, so I do not know whether it was something he considered preferable or if it is from the Book of Allah: "If a person has two valleys full of wealth, he will wish for a third like them; nothing will fill his soul except (the grave's) dust. Whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance."
