Blood money for killing a slave explained
Hadith 909
اَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ صَاحِبُ الدَّسْتَوَائِیِّ۔ حَدَّثَنِیْ اَبِیْ، عَنْ یَحْیَی بْنِ اَبِیْ کَثِیْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِیْ عِکْرِمَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: یُؤَدَّی الْمُکَاتِبُ بِقَدْرِ مَا اَدّٰی دِیَۃِ الْحُرِّ، وَمَا رَقَّ مِنْهُ دِیَةُ الْمَمْلُوْكِ.
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "If a mukatab (a slave with a contract of manumission) is killed, the blood money for the portion he has paid for his freedom will be given as that of a free man, and for the portion he remains a slave, the blood money will be given as that of a slave."
Hadith 910
اَخْبَرَنَا وَحَدَّثَنِیْ اَبِیْ، عَنْ یَحْیَی بْنِ اَبِیْ کَثِیْرٍ، عَنْ عَلِیِِّ بْنِ اَبِیْ طَالِبٍ، وَمَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَکَمِ بِمِثْلِ ذٰلِكَ.
Yahya bin Kathir narrated from Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Marwan bin Al-Hakam a similar narration.
Hadith 911
اَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ۔ صَاحِبِ الدَّسْتَوَائِیُّ۔ عَنْ یَحْیَی بْنِ اَبِیْ کَثِیْرٍ، عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهٗ.
Ikrimah narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the same narration.
Hadith 912
اَخْبَرَنَا یَعْلَی بْنُ عُبَیْدٍ، نَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ اَبِیْ عُثْمَانَ الصَّوَّافِ، عَنْ یَحْیَی بْنِ اَبِیْ کَثِیْرٍ، عَنْ عِکْرَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَضٰی رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِی الْمُکَاتَبِ یُقْتَلُ: یُؤَدِّیُ مَا اَدُّی مِنْ مَکَاتِبَتِهِ دِیَة الْحُرِّ، وَمَا بَقِیَ منه دِیَةُ الْمَمْلُوْكِ.
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a verdict regarding the blood money of «مکاتب» that if he is killed, then whatever portion of his «مکاتبة» he has paid, that much of him is considered free, and the remainder will be considered the blood money of a slave.
Hadith 913
اَخْبَرَنَا الْمَخْزُوْمِیُّ، نَا وَهْبٌ، عَنْ اَیُّوْبَ، عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِیٍّ عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: یُؤَدِّی الْمُکَاتِبِ بِقَدْرٍ مَا اَدَّی.
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: “The blood money for «مکاتب» (if he is killed) will be equal to the amount he has paid for «مکاتبة».”
Hadith 914
اَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُلَیَّةَ، عَنْ اَیُّوْبَ، عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِیٍّ مِثْلَهٗ، وَلَمْ یَرْفَعَهٗ.
Ikrimah narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) the same narration, but he did not narrate it as marfu'.
