Lying is permissible in three matters
Hadith 801
أَخْبَرَنَا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، نا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " لَا يَصْلُحُ الْكَذِبُ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثَةٍ: الرَّجُلُ يَكْذِبُ امْرَأَتَهُ لِتَرْضَى عَنْهُ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَكْذِبُ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ، وَالْكَذِبُ فِي الْحَرْبِ ".
Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Lying is permissible only in three matters: a man lies to his wife so that she may be pleased with him, a man lies to reconcile between people, and a man lies in war."
