Caring for animals' needs is obligatory
Hadith 755
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، نا شُعْبَةُ، نا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ النَّارَ فِي هِرَّةٍ، رَبَطَتْهَا فَلَمْ تُطْعِمْهَا وَلَمْ تَسْقِهَا وَلَمْ تَدَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الْأَرْضِ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman entered Hell because of a cat. She had tied it up, so she neither fed it nor gave it water, nor did she let it go so that it could eat the insects of the earth."
Hadith 756
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ، قَالَ: دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ النَّارَ فِي هِرَّةٍ رَبَطَتْهَا، فَلَمْ تَدَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الْأَرْضِ.
Muhammad bin Ja'far narrated with this chain: He said: A woman went to Hell because of a cat; she had tied it up and did not let it go so that it could eat the insects of the earth.
