Replying to gifts
Hadith 703
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، نا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الرُّبَيِّعَ بِنْتَ مُعَوِّذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ قَالَتْ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ رَطْبٍ وَأَجْرًا مِنْ زُغْبٍ، فَجَعَلَ فِي كَفِّي حُلِيًّا أَوْ ذَهَبًا فَقَالَ: ((تَحَلِّي)).
Sayyida Rabi’ bint Mu’awwidh bin ‘Afra’ (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I brought a tray of fresh dates to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and small cucumbers with a slight fuzz on them were gifted to him. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed a gold ornament in my hand and said: “Wear it.”
