Etiquette of greeting non-mahram women and ingratitude of a wife to her husband
Hadith 608
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: وَهُوَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ قَالَتْ: مَرَّ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ فِي نِسْوَةٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ((إِيَّاكُنَّ وَكُفْرَ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ)) ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، وَمَا كُفْرُ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ؟ فَقَالَ: " لَعَلَّ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَكُونُ أَيِّمًا بَيْنَ أَبَوَيْهَا فَيَرْزُقَهَا اللَّهُ زَوْجًا وَيَرْزُقَهَا مِنْهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا، فَتَغْضَبُ الْغَضْبَةَ فَتَقُولُ: مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ " قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: هَكَذَا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ.
Lady Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were sitting among women. He greeted us with peace, then said: “Beware of «منعمين» (those who do good, husbands) and do not be ungrateful to them.” We asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by being ungrateful to «منعمين»? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It may be that one of you is with her parents before marriage, then Allah grants her a husband and blesses her with wealth and children through him, but then (the woman), in anger, says: I have never seen any good from you.”
Hadith 609
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَبَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: مَرَّ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ فِي نِسْوَةٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا، قَالَتْ أَسْمَاءُ: فَرَدَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ((إِيَّاكُنَّ وَكُفْرَ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ)) ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ، وَقَالَ: فَتَغْضَبُ فَتَحْلِفُ بِاللَّهِ فَتَقُولُ: مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ.
Lady Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were among the women, and he greeted us with salam. Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We replied to your salam. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of being ungrateful for «منعمين»." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith similar to the previous one, and said: "So you, in anger, swear by Allah and say, 'I have never seen any good from you.'"
Hadith 610
أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُلَائِيُّ، نا ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ قَالَتْ: مَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ جِوَارُ أَتْرَابٍ، فَقَالَ: ((إِيَّاكُنَّ وَكُفْرَ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ)) . فَقُلْتُ: وَمَا كُفْرُ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ؟ فَقَالَ: " لَعَلَّ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَطُولُ أَيْمَتُهَا حَتَّى تَعْنَسَ فَيُزَوِّجُهَا اللَّهُ زَوْجًا دَلًّا فَتَغْضَبَ الْغَضْبَةَ فَتَقُولُ: مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ ".
Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were girls of the same age, and he said: “Avoid being ungrateful for «منعمين».” We asked: What is meant by being ungrateful for «منعمين»? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It may be that one of you remains unmarried for a long time until she grows old without marriage, then Allah grants her a husband and children, and then in a fit of anger she says: I have never seen any good from you.”
