Hadith 606
Ibrahim bin Maisarah narrated: His maternal aunt narrated from a woman, who is trustworthy, that the woman said: My father was in a battle during the days of ignorance, and due to the heat, his feet began to burn. A man said: Whoever gives me his shoes, I will marry my first-born daughter to him. So my father took off his shoes and threw them towards him. That man had a daughter born to him, and when she reached maturity, my father said: Gather my family to me, and said: Bring me the dowry. My father said: By Allah! I will not add anything to what I gave you for the two shoes. He said: By Allah! I will give her to you in exchange for the dowry. So my father went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you something better than that? Leave her, and do not become sinful by breaking your oath, and your companion will not be sinful either." So my father left her.
