Hadith 570
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Makkah is a sanctuary. Allah declared it sacred from the day He created the heavens and the earth and the sun and the moon. It was not made lawful for anyone before me to fight therein, nor will it be lawful for anyone after me. It was made lawful for me only for a short period of the day, and then it returned to its former state. Its grass is not to be cut, nor its trees, nor is its game to be frightened, nor is anything dropped there to be picked up except by one who announces it." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Except for Idhkhir (a type of grass), for the people of Makkah cannot do without it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Except for Idhkhir grass (it is permitted to cut it)."
