Glad tidings of the Ummah’s naval expeditions
Hadith 525
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، نا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً حَدَّثَتْهُ قَالَتْ: نَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَهُوَ يَضْحَكُ، قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَضَحِكْتَ مِنِّي؟ فَقَالَ: ((لَا، وَلَكِنْ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَغْزُونَ الْبَحْرَ مَثَلُهُمْ مَثَلُ الْمُلُوكِ عَلَى الْأَسِرَّةِ)) ، ثُمَّ نَامَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَهُوَ يَضْحَكُ قَالَ: ((قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَخْرُجُونَ غَزَاةً فِي الْبَحْرِ قَلِيلَةٌ غَنَائِمُهُمْ، مَغْفُورٌ لَهُمْ)) . قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِيَ مِنْهُمْ، فَدَعَا لَهَا فَأَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ أَنَّهُ رَأَى تِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةَ فِي غَزَاةِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فِي أَرْضِ الرُّومِ، كَانَ مَعَهَا فَمَاتَتْ فِي أَرْضِ الرُّومِ.
It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him), a woman told him, she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept, then woke up smiling. She asked: O Messenger of Allah! Did you laugh because of me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather because of some people from my Ummah who will undertake a naval expedition; their example is like that of kings on thrones." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then slept again, then woke up smiling and said: "Some people from my Ummah will set out for a naval expedition; they will receive little spoils of war but they will be forgiven." She asked: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He includes me among them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for her. The narrator said: Ata bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) informed us that the woman participated in the expedition of Al-Mundhir bin Zubair, which was towards the land of Rome; she was with them and she passed away in the land of Rome.
Hadith 526
أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَرَامٍ بِنْتِ مِلْحَانَ قَالَتْ: نَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ.
Lady Umm Haram bint Milhan (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept, then woke up; the narrator mentioned it in a similar manner.
