Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Rifaa’ah bin Zaid Al-Judhami (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a slave to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he set out with him towards Khaybar. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Khaybar, he stayed in the valley of ‘Ashiyyah between ‘Asr and Maghrib. That slave stood up and began to unload the saddle from the riding animal of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when suddenly an arrow came from an unknown direction and struck him, and he was killed. We said: “Congratulations to you for Paradise!” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Never! By the One in Whose hand is my soul! The cloak which he stole from the spoils of the Muslims at the time of the battle of Khaybar is now burning upon him as a flame of fire.” The narrator said: One of your companions came in a state of fear and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I had picked up two straps of shoes.” So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “For both of them, two similar things will be prepared for you in Hell.”
