Severity of the sin of betrayal
Hadith 510
أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، نا أَبُو حَيَّانَ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطِيبًا، فَذَكَرَ الْغُلُولَ فَعَظَّمَ أَمْرَهُ، فَقَالَ: " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ بَعِيرٌ لَهُ رُغَاءٌ، فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَغِثْنِي، فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ بَلَّغْتُكَ، لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ شَاةٌ لَهَا ثُغَاءٌ، فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَغِثْنِي فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ، لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أحَدَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ فَرَسٌ لَهُ حَمْحَمَةٌ فَيَقُولُ: أَغِثْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ لكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ، لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ نَفْسٌ لَهَا صِيَاحٌ، فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَغِثْنِي فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ، لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ رِقَاعٌ تَخْفِقُ فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَغِثْنِي فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ، لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ صَامِتٌ فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَغِثْنِي فَأَقُولُ: لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ ".
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us, in which he mentioned betrayal and explained its severity, saying: "O people! I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he has taken a camel and it is groaning, and he says: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you. I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he comes carrying a goat and it is bleating, and that person says: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you. I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he has taken a horse and it is neighing, and that person says: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you. I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he has taken a soul and it is screaming, and that person will say: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you. I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he has taken a piece of cloth and it is moving, and that person says: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you. I should not find any of you on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that he has taken gold or silver and he says: O Messenger of Allah! Help me, and I will say: I cannot do anything for you before Allah; I have conveyed the commands to you."
