Description of ‘Umra (gift for a lifetime)
Hadith 484
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْعُمْرَى مِيرَاثٌ لِأَهْلِهَا أَوْ جَائِزَةٌ لِأَهْلِهَا.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "‘Umra (gifting something to someone for the duration of his life) is inheritance for his heirs. Or it is permissible for his heirs."
Hadith 485
أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: سَأَلَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ عَنِ الْعُمْرَى، فَقُلْتُ: حَدَّثَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحٍ، قَالَ: قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْعُمْرَى أَنَّهَا جَائِزَةٌ.
Shurayh narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) gave a verdict regarding 'Umra that it is permissible.
Hadith 486
وَحَدَّثَ النَّضْرُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Umra is permissible."
Hadith 487
قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: وَكَانَ الْحَسَنُ يَقُولُ: الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ.
Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated, Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: They used to say: ‘Umrah is permissible.’
Hadith 488
قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: إِنَّمَا الْعُمْرَى أَنْ يَقُولَ هِيَ لَهُ وَلِعَقِبِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فَلِلَّذِي يَجْعَلُ شَرْطُهُ.
Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 'Umra is that a person says: "This is for him, and after him for his offspring." So it is for the one for whom he sets the condition.'
Hadith 489
قَالَ: فَسُئِلَ عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Umra is permissible."
Hadith 490
فَقَالَ: الزُّهْرِيُّ كَانَ الْخُلَفَاءُ يَقْضُونَ بِهِ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: قَضَى بِهِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ وَغَيْرُهُ.
Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The caliphs used to decide this matter. Ata, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Abdul Malik bin Marwan decided this matter.
Hadith 491
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، نا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Umra is permissible."
