Description of pledging something as collateral for a loan
Hadith 468
اَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَیْلٍ، نَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانٍ، عَنْ عِکْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: تُوْفِّیَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَدِرْعُهٗ مَرْهُوْنَةٌ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ مِّنْ یَهُوْدٍ بِثَلَاثِیْنَ صَاعًا مِّنْ شَعِیرٍ، اَخَذَهٗ طَعَامًا لِاَهْلِه.
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, his armor was mortgaged with a Jewish man in exchange for thirty sa’ of barley, which he had taken for food for his family.
