Prohibition of sharecropping on a crop-sharing basis
Hadith 458
اَخْبَرَنَا وَکِیْعٌ، عَنْ سُفْیَانَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِیْنَارٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ یَقُوْلُ: کُنَّا نُخَابِرُ فَـلَا نَرٰی بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا، حَتّٰی زَعَمَ رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِیْجٍ اَنَّ النَّبِیَّ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَیْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهٰی عَنْهُ.
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: We used to cultivate land on the basis of sharecropping and did not see any harm in it, until Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it.
