Hadith 452
أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْحَاقَ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي الرُّبَيِّعُ بِنْتُ مُعَوِّذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ قَالَتْ: " دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَنِسْوَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَلَى أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ مُخَرِّبَةَ أُمِّ أَبِي جَهْلٍ، وَكَانَ ابْنُهَا عَيَّاشُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ يَبْعَثُ إِلَيْهَا الْعِطْرَ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَتَبِيعُهُ إِلَى الْأُعْطِيَةِ، قَالَتْ: فَاشْتَرَيْتُ مِنْهَا، فَوُزِنَ لِي، وَجَعَلْتُهُ فِي قَوَارِيرِي، كَمَا وُزِنَ لِصَاحِبَتِي، فَقَالَتْ لِي: اكْتُبِي لِي عَلَيْكِ حَقِّي، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: أَكْتُبُ عَلَى الرُّبَيِّعِ بِنْتِ مُعَوِّذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ؟ فَقَالَتْ لِي: إِنَّكِ لَبِنْتُ قَاتِلِ سَيِّدِهِ , فَقُلْتُ: لَا، وَلَكِنِّي بِنْتُ قَاتِلِ عَبْدِهِ، فَقَالَتْ: وَاللَّهِ لَا أَبِيعُكَ أَبَدًا، فَقُلْتُ: وَأَنَا وَاللَّهِ لَا أَشْتَرِي مِنْكِ شَيْئًا أَبَدًا، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ بِطِيبٍ وَلَا عَرْفٍ ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: أَيْ بُنَيَّ وَاللَّهِ مَا شَمِمْتُ طِيبًا قَطُّ أَطْيَبَ مِنْهُ، وَلَكِنَّهَا حِينَ قَالَتْ مَا قَالَتْ غَضِبْتُ، فَقُلْتُ مَا قُلْتُ ".
Lady Rabi’ bint Mu’awwiz ibn ‘Afra’ (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I, along with some women of the Ansar, went to Asma’ bint Mukhrabah, the mother of Abu Jahl. Her son, ‘Ayyash bin ‘Abdullah bin Abi Rabi’ah, used to send perfume to her from Yemen, and she would sell it to those who received a monthly allowance. I bought perfume from her, and she weighed it for me. I put it into my bottles, just as she had weighed it for the woman next to me. She said to me: Write down for me what you owe me. I said to her: Write it down as a debt on Rabi’ bint Mu’awwiz ibn ‘Afra’. She said: You are the daughter of the killer of her chief. I said: By Allah! I am not the killer, but I am the daughter of the killer of her slave. She said: By Allah! I will never sell this to you. I said: By Allah! I will never buy anything from you. By Allah! It is not even a fragrance. Then she said: Daughter! By Allah! I have never smelled a fragrance better than this, but at the time when she said what she said, I became angry, and so I said what I said.
