Fasting on the day of Ashura
Hadith 420
أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، نا خَالِدُ بْنُ ذَكْوَانَ، عَنِ الرُّبَيِّعِ بِنْتِ مُعَاذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ قَالَتْ: أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَدَاةَ عَاشُورَاءَ إِلَى قُرَى الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: ((مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ، وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ أَصْبَحَ مُفْطِرًا فَلْيَصُمْ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ)).
Lady Rabi’ bint Mu’awwiz bin ‘Afra’ (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: On the morning of ‘Ashura, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to the settlements of the Ansar, and said: “Whoever among you has fasted today, let him complete his fast, and whoever among you has not fasted, let him fast for the rest of the day.”
