Beginning fasting with the sighting of Ramadan moon and ending with Shawwal moon
Hadith 400
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، نا شُعْبَةُ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ، أَوْ قَالَ: صُومُوا حِينَ تَرَوْهُ وَأَفْطِرُوا إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ، فَإِنْ عُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ.
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Begin fasting upon sighting the moon, and stop fasting upon sighting the moon." Or he said: "When you see it, then begin fasting, and when you see (the Shawwal moon), then stop fasting. If the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the count to thirty."
Hadith 401
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، نا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، أَوْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ)).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "When you see the (crescent of Ramadan), then fast, and when you see it (the crescent of Shawwal), then stop fasting. If the sky is cloudy, then complete the count to thirty."
Hadith 402
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، نا شُعْبَةُ، نا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ، وَقَالَ: فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then the narrator mentioned it similar to the previous hadith, and said: "If the sky is cloudy for you."
