Expressing grief and wailing over the deceased
Hadith 257
أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَوْسٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا مَرِضَ أَبُو مُوسَى بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ امْرَأَتُهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا: أَمَا سَمِعْتِ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَقَالَتْ: بَلَى، فَلَمَّا مَاتَ قَالَ يَزِيدُ: لَقِيتُ الْمَرْأَةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: مَا قَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى لَكِ: أَمَا سَمِعْتِ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ فَقُلْتِ: بَلَى، فَقَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ سَلَقَ وَحَلَقَ وَمَنْ خَرَقَ)).
Yazid bin Aws narrated: When Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, his wife began to weep over him. He said to her: Have you not heard what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said? She replied: Of course. Then when he passed away, Yazid said: I met that honorable lady and asked her: What did Abu Musa say to you? Did you not hear what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said? She replied: Of course. Then she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wails (in mourning), shaves her head, or tears her clothes is not from among us."
Hadith 258
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، نا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَهْمِ بْنِ مِنْجَابٍ، عَنِ الْقَرْثَعِ قَالَ: لَمَّا ثَقُلَ أَبُو مُوسَى صَاحَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ، فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى لَهَا: أَمَا عَلِمْتِ مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَتْ: بَلَى، فَسَكَتَتْ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا بَعْدُ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَتْ: ((لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ سَلَقَ وَمَنْ حَلَقَ وَمَنْ خَرَقَ)).
Qartha’ narrated: When Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, his wife began to wail. Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: “Do you not know what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said?” She replied: “Why not?” So she became silent. Later, she was asked, and she said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who wails (in mourning), shaves the head (in grief), and tears the clothes.”
