Virtue of attending a funeral
Hadith 244
أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُهَزِّمِ، يَقُولُ: صَحِبْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((مَنِ اتَّبَعَ جِنَازَةً فَحَمَلَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدْ قَضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَقِّهَا)).
Abbad bin Mansur said: I heard Abu al-Mahzam narrate: I stayed with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) for ten years, I heard him narrate, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever attends a funeral and lifts it three times has fulfilled the right of that (funeral) which was due upon him."
Hadith 245
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، نا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَزِّمِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ تَبِعَ جِنَازَةً يَحْمِلُهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدْ أَدَّى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَقِّهَا)) .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever participated in a funeral and lifted it three times, he has fulfilled the right that was due upon him.”
Hadith 246
أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، أنا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جِنَازَةٍ، كُنْتُ إِذَا مَشَيْتُ سَبَقَنِي فَأُهَرْوِلُ، فَإِذَا هَرْوَلْتُ سَبَقْتُهُ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي: ((إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَى لَهُ)) .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a funeral procession. When I walked, he would go ahead of me, and then I started walking faster. When I walked faster, I went ahead of him. There was a man beside me, he said: The earth is being folded for you.
