Warning against abandoning congregational prayer
Hadith 160
أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ، نا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ فِتْيَتِي فَيَجْمَعُوا حِزَمَ الْحَطَبِ، ثُمَّ نُحَرِّقَ عَلَى أَقْوَامٍ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلَاةَ)) .
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "I intended to order for the prayer to be established, then for the call to prayer (iqamah) to be given, then to order some young men to gather bundles of wood, then to have them set fire to those who do not come to the prayer."
Hadith 161
أَخْبَرَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، نا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ، نا يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْأَصَمِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَتِي، فَيَجْمَعُوا حِزَمَ الْحَطَبِ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ، ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى أَقْوَامٍ بُيُوتَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ النِّدَاءَ، ثُمَّ لَا يَأْتُوهَا)) ، قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لِيَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ إِلَى جُمُعَةٍ، قَالَ: مَا سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ذَكَرَ جُمُعَةً وَلَا غَيْرَهَا.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "I intended to order the young men to gather bundles of wood, then I would command for the prayer and the call to prayer would be given, then I would burn the houses of those who hear the call to prayer but do not come to perform the prayer."
Hadith 162
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، وَالْمُلَائِيُّ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ قَوْلَ يَزِيدَ.
Fadl bin Musa and Al-Mala'i narrated with this chain in a similar manner.
Hadith 163
أَخْبَرَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْفَزَارِيُّ، نا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ أَعْمَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِي قَائِدٌ يَقُودُنِي إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَسَأَلَهُ أَنْ يُرَخِّصَ لَهُ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّى دَعَاهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: ((هَلْ تَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ بِالصَّلَاةِ؟)) فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: ((فَأَجِبْ)) .
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A blind man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have no guide to lead me to the prayer (in congregation)." So he requested the Prophet to grant him permission to pray at home. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him permission. When he turned to leave, the Prophet (peace be upon him) called him back and said: "Do you hear the call to prayer (adhan)?" He replied: "Yes." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then come for the prayer."
